I live in One Tree Point in beautiful Northland, New Zealand. I would describe myself as largely self taught. I spent a term with Richard Robinson & Aroha Parora, both wonderful Northland artists, who encouraged me to continue with my painting.
I have always had a passion for all things “art” and have in recent years visited some of the great galleries, attended some of the worlds best exhibitions and seen the magnificent architecture of Europe.
My husband and I spent 4 years working in Berkshire in the UK. While there I joined “The Maidenhead Art Club”, I was very fortunate to gain a place in that group. The members were made up of both amateur and professional artists. It was a stimulating environment to be in. Professional artists Bob Ashby then later his daughter Jo Ashby took the group. My work was exhibited in Maidenhead and Belgium as a member, all in all a great thrill.
I also showcased and sold works in the “Art in The Street” exhibition in Maidenhead, together with 120 other artists, a wonderful event to be part of. I have also exhibited in NZ as a member of various Art associations. My work can be found in the UK, Australia and NZ.
These experiences have enriched my life and heightened my awareness to the beauty that is all around us. I try to capture that beauty in my work, especially the light effects. My work is largely atmospheric, I just love sunrises and sunsets. I have always been drawn to landscape paintings and am inspired by the breathtaking scenery near my home in Northland.
I am now experimenting with renewed excitement and with some pleasing results with “Reverse Painting on Glass.” I am meeting new challenges and surprising myself. My environment affects my art, and my inspiration is all around me.
“Reverse Painting on Glass.”
Is an historic technique, believed to have originated in the East. There is something mysterious about this method that excites me. I am fascinated by the results I can achieve with every new painting. I call it my evolution in art.
(All glass used is “Heavy Duty” and secured well into each frame.)
I live in One Tree Point, Northland with my wife Maree, whose passion for art finally inspired me to “have a go”.
We were working in the UK where Maree joined an advanced art class and we both joined a local art group in our village of Fifield.
Having never painted before I found the companionship of our group both fun and inspiring and surprised myself.
Along with Maree we exhibited some of our works in the “Art in the Street” exhibition in Maidenhead where to my surprise I sold a small landscape.
I am self taught and continue to try to improve my techniques. I have a passion for boats and the sea and the majority of my paintings cover this theme. I have however dabbled in other subjects and would love to try portraits. I mainly paint in watercolour which is my medium of choice.
Maree and I have created a gallery in our new house in One Tree Point and we are meeting other local artists which is inspiring and fun.
